Supporting the Vitality of Rural America
Rural America upholds the cultural, community and economic values that are a fundamental part of the fabric of our nation. These values are jeopardized when rural America loses its population base and working farms and forests through economic displacement, natural disaster, public policy change, or lack of advocacy and education. By supporting rural communities we are preserving an opportunity for people to claim their natural relationship and connection to each other and the values innately expressed such as community, family, independence and freedom.
Rural America Foundation bridges a gap by connecting urban and rural resources. We bring a “can-do” attitude of respect when working with local leadership in rural communities to build a network of people and talent, provide resources, disaster relief, education and assistance to support rural families in recovering, restoring and maintaining their way of life within the community.
Seventy-five percent of our Nation’s land is in rural America which provides a home to nearly 50 million people. This farming or country life contains many of the Nation’s cultural treasures and natural amenities. Ideals of freedom, harmony and balance are marked by characteristics of rugged individualism, self-sufficiency, community and a lifestyle that lives with the rhythm of our natural world. The nation primarily relies on rural America for its food and fiber and the open space and recreational opportunities available to a rapidly growing suburban population.
